Objectives

To design an ESP32-based urinary drainage bag monitoring system using a non-contact liquid-level sensor. To develop a Node-RED dashboard for displaying the urinary drainage bag level and system status remotely. To integrate a Telegram alert function into the system to notify caregivers when the liquid level reaches a predefined threshold.

Scope of project

Detects liquid only at a fixed threshold, not the exact volume. Uses an external sensor on a compatible non-metallic drainage bag. Requires stable Wi-Fi for Node-RED and Telegram access. Operates using two protected rechargeable 18650 batteries. Intended for simulated testing only, not clinical use.

Project description

This project develops an IoT-based urinary drainage bag monitoring system using an ESP32 microcontroller and a non-contact liquid-level sensor. The sensor detects when the liquid reaches a predefined FULL threshold without direct contact with the liquid. The system provides local status indications through an LCD, LEDs and buzzer. A Node-RED dashboard enables remote monitoring, while Telegram automatically sends alert notifications to caregivers when the FULL level is detected. The prototype is powered by two rechargeable 18650 batteries and is designed for simulated testing using water, not for clinical use.
