Objectives

i. To develop a local face recognition module on the Raspberry Pi 400, capable of identifying enrolled students. ii. To implement a GPIO-based control circuit that activates the relay-driven 12 V solenoid lock and lights the corresponding indicator LED for the locker belonging to the recognized student. iii. To develop a door-monitoring function using a limit switch and a buzzer that alerts the student or the supervising teacher when a locker door is left open beyond a preset duration.

Scope of project

About 1 m working distance with the student facing the camera, in a workshop with normal indoor light. Design decision: recognition is limited to a student who stops and faces the camera. This avoids opening lockers for people just walking past. Accuracy depends on how much dataset is collected, the more it is, the higher the accuracy

Project description

Students with autism (ASD) or ADHD often struggle with locker padlocks, which need a remembered code, a carried key or fine hand control. This project replaces them with a locker that opens by recognising the student’s face. The student stands about one metre from the camera and looks at it. A Raspberry Pi 400 identifies the student and unlocks only their locker, and a lamp beside the door lights up to show which one has opened. If a door is left open too long, a buzzer sounds.
