Objectives
Aim: To design and develop a child-friendly digital savings box that accepts and automatically identifies Malaysian Ringgit coins and banknotes, providing real-time savings feedback through a companion Flutter mobile application to enhance financial literacy among Malaysian children aged 7 to 12 years. Objective 1 To design and develop a child-friendly digital savings box enclosure that accepts Malaysian coins and banknotes as a physical saving tool for children aged 7 to 12 years. Objective 2 To implement an automated currency detection system using the ESP32, HX711 with a 1 kg load cell, and TCS34725 colour sensor to identify and record Malaysian coin denominations inserted into the savings box. Objective 3 To develop a Flutter-based Android mobile application that enables children to monitor their total savings balance and track their savings progress towards a set financial goal in real time.
Scope of project
Coin Detection by Weight 5, 10, 20 and 50 sen on a 1 kg load cell with the HX711. Banknote Validation by Dominant Colour RM1 to RM100, read by the TCS34725 while 2 FS90R rollers pull the note in. Flutter Mobile Application Android 10 or newer, linked to the ESP32 over 2.4 GHz WiFi. New and Old Malaysian Coin Series Differentiation The TCS34725 checks yellow or silver when two coins weigh the same. Physical Detection Platform A printed coin platform on the load cell, and a note tunnel over the sensor. Servo Motor Coin Release Mechanism An MG90S servo paddle pushes each coin into the money storage. Enclosure Design and Fabrication Designed in Fusion 360, 3D printed in PLA as 4 sections, with its own PCB. Limitations One coin or one note at a time. It does not check foreign coins or fake money. The phone and the box must be on the same 2.4 GHz WiFi. The app is for Android only. Notes must go in flat. Very old or dirty notes may be read wrongly.
