Objectives

To develop a real-time bus arrival information display system using ESP32-S3 and an e-ink display. To integrate real-time bus information from Prasarana into the developed system. To implement a solar power supply system for the developed prototype.

Scope of project

ESP32-S3 with a WeAct GDEY042T81 4.2-inch e-ink display (400×300 pixels). Bus information retrieved over Wi-Fi from a Flask-based server connected to the Malaysia open data source. Shows up to three approaching buses: route name, estimated arrival time and distance. Powered by a 6 V solar panel, a 3.7 V 5000 mAh LiPo battery and a BQ25185 solar charger module.

Project description

This project is a solar-powered bus arrival display for bus stops without mains electricity. A Flask server on Render processes Prasarana’s real-time bus positions (GTFS Realtime) and calculates each bus’s arrival time and distance. The ESP32-S3 fetches the result over Wi-Fi and shows up to three approaching buses on a 4.2-inch e-ink display. A 6 V solar panel, LiPo battery and BQ25185 charger power the system.
